With the official opening of the federal tax filing season underway, is also the season of tax scamming, the Internal Revenue Service warns.
Tax fraudsters have posed as the IRS in everything from email refund schemes to phone impersonations all aimed at getting you to share your personal financial information. The scammers then use your personal information to steal your identity or to file a fake return and collect a false refund.
Remember, the IRS never contacts taxpayers by email and it never needs to ask for your personal or financial information. The IRS also does not send text messages or post on your social media accounts. There is no reason for the IRS to ask for your personal identification numbers (PINs), passwords or other passwords for your credit card, bank or other financial accounts. If you get an email claiming to be from the IRS, do not open it or click on any links. Contact your local police department with all information.
Moving into a new home is an exciting time, but it can also be extremely overwhelming. Survey results prove that 44 percent of respondents say they would rather go a week without Internet than move. Lower your stress level by following these moving tips to make your moving process easier and even enjoyable. So how do you make it easier?
Stay Organized while Packing As soon as you have found your new home, the task of packing looms ahead. Streamline the packing process by staying organized. Avoid throwing things into boxes. Instead, clearly label each box for the corresponding room in your new home, such as "Master Bedroom" or "Basement". If it is a local move and you have time to spread it out, then consider planning on getting the smaller things moved first and then call in the reserves to help with the heavy lifting. The other idea is for you to move one room at a time. Either way it is a good idea to number your boxes to ensure that everything arrives at your new home.
Moving Day To lower the stress of your move, consider spending some money to hire movers. It is always smart to get quotes from several different companies. Moving on a weekday is best if you are on a budget, because moving companies typically offer a lower per mile rate. If you do not have the money to hire movers, do not be afraid to ask friends and family to help. Remember, the more people helping you, the less stressful it will be. It is always wise to make it less stressfull and more of a celebration than real work.
After the Move Make a list of companies that will need to be notified of your move. Do not forget to change your billing address, magazine subscriptions and file a change of address with the post office one week before you move. It is also a nice touch to send a change of address card to your friends and family.
Houses with great storage are a selling-rental positive point, but packed closets make it look like your home doesn't have much room for a potential buyer's things. This also holds true for rental prospects as it is a universal wish list item for eveyone. When showing a home for a rental property or to sell a home showcase your closets by taking half of your belongings out, then neatly organizing what remains. Be sure you can see to the back of shelves, and clothes organized in a visually appealing manner.
When the RentLocal Rental Association started here in Hopkins County I was the first one to join. I searched the renter reviews and it literally saved me hundreds of dollars when I discovered my potential renter had bad reviews from another rental association member. Thank you RentLocal.
